What is Home Canning?

It is the process of preserving food from the comfort of your own home using the high quality home canning method. Home canning has caught on fast. The reason is simple, “Why try canned food from a jar, when you can can can food from a can?”

Home Canning – Getting Started

In general, the greater the variety of herbs and spices, the more flavorful the finished product will be.

Preparing herbs and spices according to directions is most important. On the other hand, you can use your personal taste as a guide when using herbs and spices. Remember, one taste and one experience can often make or break a dish.

You will need a good vessel to put your food in to cool. Many people use glass jars. Others use food grade plastic or silverware. You can use a guy rope or food wrapped as a present. My favorite is to wrap a couple layers of moist paper towels around a couple of large celery sticks, and then lay them in a glass or plastic bucket. I have my friends over, and everyone helps to dunk the both of them in ice water while they are still green so they will take less time eating them.

If you have no doubt that you will be using herbs and spices in your new diet, then purchase a package of quality seeds. Standard seeds are expensive, but tasty. You never know what you may come up with!

Most people are going to need to use their blender to puree some of the products provided above, but keep in mind that you can always use your regular blender for other things. blender isines are wonderful for pureeing dry ingredients.
